James Wishart’s polemic music theatre piece explores a post-Thatcher Britain, reflecting on the descent of the self and society amidst the rise of neo-liberalism.

Wishart’s brilliant modernist score, which nods to Maxwell Davies’ Songs for a Mad King, is a blend of vocal extended technique, multiple characterisation, impersonation, operatic line and sprechgsang.

“Knocked sideways by Louise Ashcroft. Dazzling turn worth crossing the country for.”

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
